So I rang around to TRE the other day, and also chatted with their online support folks (good service by the way). They didn't have any firmware for me to download and upgrade my current PC cards from Tre. They told me to go to the shop and have them do it for me, but when I went there, they told me it can only be done in Stureplan (Stockholm center), so I gave a call to one of the manufacturers of PC cards, and they sent me their latest card for testing. I later read that TRE will make available the firmware as of a month from now so people can upgrade on their own. What TRE hasn't mentioned however is that they have HSUPA. I learnt this from the Ericsson press release http://www.ericsson.com/ericsson/press/releases/20070917-1153827.shtml

Also, there are no HSUPA modems on sale on TRE's website. This is quite odd, but I'm sure it'll be corrected in the next quarter as manufacturer supply isn't available today.

So, I did a speed test from home this morning. I live in the immediate outskirts of the city center. Here are the results:

Please note that I've seen uplink speeds close to 1.4Mbps, however the fastest downlink was in fact the number you're looking at here, being 4.45Mbps. It all depends on time of day, and whether or not you're alone on the base station as speeds advertised by 3G/HSPA operators show the full raw-data speed of the base station, rather than the effective-data speed per user. In reality, I don't expect more than 6Mbps down on the downlink.
