So, if you have a Huawei-branded E630 card, and stick it into the DOVADO WRG, or anything else that may support previous models such as the E620, you won't have any problems in using it. It works automatically for us and doesn't require any software coding, as many Huawei cards contain the same product and vendor ID.

However, if you get a Huawei card that is operator-branded, such as the one from TRE, it is set up differently. Namely, we can see that it has two modes of operation (mind you, they have a new product ID now). One mode is what I call the "memory mode" in where you have a integrated flash memory module containing all the software drivers for the installation of the PC card in Windows, and the other mode is the "modem mode".

We've dealt with this before in the Option GT MAZ 7.2-Ready card, where you have to disable the memory mode in order to skip directly into modem mode when in Linux. There was a tool for that, however in the case of the Huawei E630, you get a totally different can of worms to deal with...

The "memory mode" in the operator-branded E630 card pops up as an actual CD-ROM drive, and not a flash drive. So if you yank the card out of a device, such as a PC, it goes bonkers (in Windows, you get a blue-screen, for instance). Nevermind that though, we see that the regular E630 card has 3 USB serial ports, and that the operator-branded variant has 4 USB ports.

Any clues of how to disable it from going into "memory mode" first and go straight to "modem mode"?

Ok, we got it working now and is being tested with some friendlies; awaiting feedback. We hope to have it out in the coming firmware release R236.
